Classes on offer
All classes are OPEN LEVEL, meaning everyone can join ANY class!
Dance Strength and Skills
A general dance technique class focused on building your knowledge of movement, strength, stamina, and those tricky steps often found in choreography. Built to support your confidence, dance vocabulary and general fitness, this class has it all for every type of dancer! Class will include a mixture of Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, and fitness exercises to build transferable skills to ANY dance class (or sport, for that matter).
Jazz
An open level class with upbeat music, quick feet, and maybe even a high kick! Class will begin with a warm up and some technique, before jumping into a short routine. Whether it's a punchy rock song, classic pop banger, or a Broadway ballad, Jazz will involve high energy, big smiles, and jazz hands (sometimes).
Contemporary
A class for expressive movement, flow, and a sense of breath. After a thorough warm up and some focused skill-building (balance, space - whatever we need for the rest of the class), you will learn a short routine. Think: lyrical and emotional music, but sometimes also the weirdest songs on some obscure playlist. Contemporary is broad, abstract, and unique, but always grounded and free.

Some things to ease to mind
First of all, YASSSS, I'm so glad you're going to join us! You won't regret it.
To break it down: you will arrive to the studio where there is a waiting area - tall ceilings, washrooms, some bench seats. When class starts, you will come into the Workroom and leave your shoes at the back of the studio with your bag/water bottle. I'll chat for a minute about the class for the day, including the rundown of the class, style, song etc. We'll do a warm up for 10-15 minutes to get the blood pumping, and maybe some across-the-room (or on-the-spot) exercises.
If it's a Jazz or Contemporary class, we'll spend 40ish minutes working on a routine. There will be plenty of time to practice and you can choose to film a version for yourself in the last 5 minutes, but you will not be filmed without your consent.
If we're in a Strength and Skills class, the session will focus on a variety of exercises to build your abilities and confidence.
Each class will have drink breaks, opportunities to practice, a friendly pace, and laughter throughout )*fingers crossed*).
Interlude runs out of the fabulous Studio1 studios at 190 Station Rd, Yeerongpilly, QLD. Classes are held in the Workroom, which is the big, black box style room to the right when you walk in :)
Wear anything that makes you feel comfortable!
For your upper half, I'd suggest a T-shirt or singlet - something you can move and roll in.
Likewise for bottoms - leggings, shorts, track pants, loose-fitting jeans. For Contemporary, I'd suggest something that covers your knees.
Shoes are not needed in any class. I'm SUCH a socks-wearer, but clean runners can be worn if you want some extra support. Bring along your indoor runners and get changed into them once you're inside the studio. We want to keep the floors clean for rolling and laying :)
Bring a water bottle, a towel if it's summer (but the studio is air-conned!), and I like to bring another pair of socks in case the ones I'm wearing don't do it for me. I'm very particular about my 'Lucky Socks'.
YES. I have taught dance to all levels and ages of dancers, from 4 year olds to 84-year olds. I pride myself on tailoring classes and exercises to the people in the room. That doesn't mean you won't be challenged - it means I will support you to try new things, pick up movement, and leave feeling like you've accomplished something. I'm SO passionate about making dance approachable and fun; I hope that's what you take away from these classes and come back time and again.
That doesn't matter AT ALL! All classes are totally casual, meaning that each session is fully self-contained and you can book for when suits your life and schedule.
Choreography will remain the same for two weeks, meaning that, if you miss a week, you can learn it when it suits you, or you can return for 'week 2' and refine what you previously learned. Classes will not draw on the previous week's learning - come and go as you please (but I sure hope to see you often)!
Yes, Interlude Dance Studio is for all people over the age of 18.
Yep! Studio1 is in a great location with loads of on-street parking. There is also more parking if you drive through the driveway right next to the 'Studio1' sign.
Yes, Studio1 is accessible! The studio is on the ground level, with a driveway right up to the studio door if needed. There are no steps or lips into the building, studio, or washrooms. Some images and details will be added to Interlude's Instagram page before our first class on 26th April.
Melody is also conversational in Auslan, and we welcome Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, along with interpreters (and any other assistants in general), into the space with open doors.
If you have any specific needs, please reach out before class if you wish, or chat on the day, and I will ensure class meets your requirements with absolutely no hassle. I truly mean it when I say 'come exactly as you are'!
We ask that you cancel through the Square email you receive a minimum of two hours before class. Please then email interludedancestudio@gmail.com to arrange a credit to be used within 30 days of the cancelled class.
About your teacher
Melody - Instructor
Hi! It's so nice to have you here.
I was one of those kids who danced down the hallway of my house, who begged my Dad to learn routines, and who ensured sleepovers with my friends were filled with fashion shows and choreography. My life has always been dance, and for that I am so grateful. I have now been teaching for over 12 years in Australia - and most recently Canada - and it truly is the joy of my life (besides my husband and the snow).
I know everyone's relationship with dance is different. For some, dance wasn't on your radar or list of after-school activities. It was expensive, hard to access, or just not your choice of sport/exercise/creativity. For others, dance was life in your teenage years, but and then things changed; time became scarce, money shifted focus, priorities took over, or a teacher left an impact we don't care to revisit. I've seen it, I've heard it, I've lived it. This is why I created Interlude Dance Studio. It's a space for every one, regardless of the amount of time you've spent in or out of a dance studio.
Whatever your reason for dipping your toe into dance in 2026, I hope you know you've made the right choice. Trying something new or reigniting an old flame is difficult - we don't thrive on being uncomfortable, and we certainly don't like feeling out of control. But I promise that's where we can sometimes find accomplishment, new friends, and heart-pounding joy.
My goal as a teacher isn't to ensure your every step is correct (in fact, I hope you feel safe to make mistakes. We call that 'wrong but strong' - own that shi*!). Ultimately, my goal is to make every dance class fun, challenging, silly, encouraging, and warm. Because if we - adults with lives and children and jobs and responsibilities - can't take a moment to laugh and boogie with other busy but amazing humans, what's the point?
Thank you for your time, effort, and energy. I can't wait to dance with you.
